Amy, what the heck are "anti-hobbies"? Hahahaha, that's another word I made up! I define "anti-hobbies" as things I'm not into. NOT (necessarily) things I hate. No judgement or hate at all towards people who like these things. I'm also not writing this list to seem special or cool or like a hipster or whatever. I just thought it would be fun to do a compare and contrast essentially with common hobbies and subcultures. Plus, you'll get to know me better.
Yep! This is the probably the biggest one here... I've never been super into stanning actual people. Now don't get me wrong, I've always gotten crushes on people I've known in real life. I'm talking about liking a celebrity. Unobtainable crushes. I think this is because of how I look at fantasies or general escapism. A fictional character is an idea, a concept, a dream, essentially. You can manipulate fiction in your head as much as you see fit. A character is never going to betray you or go against your ideals if you're familiar with canon. Yeah, I guess your blorb becoming a twist villian halfway through the story might count as "betrayal", but you know what I mean. Harry Potter or fucking Sasuke aren't going to get involved into scandels or something lol. Loving a fictional character is a safe fantasy away from the troubles and morals of life...
Human beings are messy and falliable. That makes true love between others beautiful... but it's also why it's hard for me to understand the devotion to (unobtainable) real people. Like I get it, but it's never been something for me. I will never be the biggest fan. A celebrity will never know the true me or vice-versa. Celebs are insincere by their very nature and have the capacity for wrongdoings. That's why I would rather just go for either the fantasy with complete control (fictional character + world) or someone in real life. I want to open my heart to someone completely. I guess that for me it comes down to a lack of control over a celeb's actions.
(Like the rest of my list) this is not hate on stans or people into celebs! I get it, it's just as much of a fantasy as liking a character. I know liking a hot dude isn't that deep or whatever lmfao. This is just MY personal reasoning on why I would rather go for 2D instead of 3D. This also ties into why I've always preferred cartoons / anime over live-action drama. Or even novels.
Parasocial relationships kinda fascinate as a side note, real or not. There's no judgement here. I wish the world was less lonely.
I value pro-consumer practices. I despise "freemium" or pay-to-win games. I don't like lootboxes. I value data and media perservation. I value consuming content when I see fit. If I want to play a game, I want to pay upfront for all of the features included.
Fuck gatcha. Fuck rolling for a single character while drawing from a pool with everything. Fuck events. If I like a character, I want to read every story, play every event, and be able to enjoy all the content for years to come.
I'm writing this an ex-gatcha / mobile game player. I have memories of staying up and getting tier 1 of the Easter Maki event on the LL:SIF English Server during the 2016 election night lol. Never again. Still pissed off at Happy Elements too.
I haven't been able to get into K-pop, K-dramas, or celebrities for the reasons listed above (anything with real people). K-pop seems really, really hard to get into. I've tried to understand it, believe me. The culture seems way too fast-paced for me. Constant releases, live-streams, drama, scandals, etc. The fandom also seems very competitive for me. I don't understand the social rituals of K-pop Twitter. It's hard for me to get the jokes or lingo between fans. Many fans constantly compare their biases against others. Some of the culture seems mean-spirited. I also know about the extreme amount of work that K-pop stars undergo as well as the dark side of the industry.
But K-pop celebs are really pretty / cute, and the music is catchy! I get it, lol. Dramas are a lot more safer and more approachable to me. But I mostly stick to Japanese media because I'm trying to get fluent with the language. I want to go to South Korea one day though~
I've never gotten fashion. There's things I like to wear. I have a color scheme for myself. I dress casually but also wear things that make me feel pretty and good about myself.
I'm not stupid. I know that for alternative fashion like let's say, egl / lolita, there's a lot of thought beforehand you must do... if you don't want to look like a hot mess. I recognize that it would take a great amount of effort for me to integrate within lolita culture... and I will greatly appreciate it! Secondhand! Seriously, thank you for sharing your beautiful coords with the world, lolitas and fashionistas. O7
A lot of vintage / exclusive clothing is expensive. I have measurements that restrict myself from wearing lots of Asian sizes (tall). I also don't know how to sew... for now. I'm trying to get my doll into lolita! Tell me if she's an ita please!
If I want to play a game, the point is getting AWAY from other people. I'm not a misanthropist; that's just what I value in escapism. I enjoy talking about my interests with other fans, but I don't want to be dependent on other people.
Random rant here, but I fucking hate trade evolutions in Pokemon. Always have. They are shit and anti-consumer. They make the games age horribly. Why the fuck should I have to depend on another moron to use my Pokemon?! It's supposed to be a self-contained adventure. How immersion breaking. There should have always been a "trade-back guy" in every game by the Elite Four Pokemon Center.
I'll make a Pokemon shrine after I play Violet. Here's an actually unpopular opinion. Mega Evolutions suck, and they always have. Truth hurts.
Too expensive. Can't sew. I would be too perfectionistic. Not a regular con-goer. Don't want to make / buy clothes only to wear a couple times. Don't want to show my face or body online.
Meh. I would rather play the actual game or watch a Let's Play. I guess they would be fine in the background while eating or working. There's lots of funny clips of the Hololive girls on YouTube though, so I support them.
Boring to me. Don't ever see a lot of sports fans within my online circles, but there's a lot of sports fans around me irl.
The screaming. The lights. The people. Too much. Plus I value sleep too much.
I really liked Breaking Bad. There's some drama adaptations that are nice. Midnight Dinner looks really comfy on Netflix. But I never got into Supernatural, Bridgerton, idk, whatever show is on CBS. Should I give Hannibal a try though?
Like Barbie, Monster High, etc. I don't care about them. I didn't ever play with them as a kid. I'm team plushie. LOL Surprise Dolls look ugly and creepy...
There are lots of albums and types of music I like to listen to. I'm just not a big super music... fan? Person? A least the kind of person to experimentally play music often and all day. You can ask me about the music I like, just don't have too too high of expectations! ;^; My favorite band of all time is The Smiths. Some other random bands I like: The Sundays, Cortex, Animal Collective, Courtney Barnett, Styx, Talking Heads, Stereolab, Melodu's Echo Chamber, The London Suede, Thievery Corporation, Candy Claws (Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time)... yeah okay you get it, no bulli! I also like Love Live / PreCure music. And Bossa Nova.
