Tropes
I am BORED and want to talk about ships and tropes! Both what I like and DISLIKE muahahaha....
Okay so disclaimer. As you guys already know, this site is for an adult audience but safe-for-work. That means I will reference
some media meant for adults, but I will not talk about any explicit topics directly. I'm kind of shy anyways lol.
I am a "turtle" when it comes to fiction. If I try something and I like something, I will "eat" it. I like when fiction explores dark themes and mature themes sometimes, even if it's explicitly graphic or M-rated. A lot of the media I talk about on this website is "low-brow" (cartoons and
comfy video games), but I regularly read and discuss classic novels in a book club as well. Not that there's anything WRONG or SHAMEFUL with enjoying just cartoons, but I like exploring lots of different works for pleasure :)
Tropes I LIKE!
- Robots / aliens / non-humans / monsters / characters with an "imperfection"
-
This is one of my favorite tropes... A character that isn't human learning to be human. Themes about what makes someone a person.
Themes about the body verses the mind or body-mind dualism. Lack of control over your body works well in horror.
Characters that have a real or perceived "imperfection" are really cute to me. You can make it to where the character's flaw is exaggerated and they have a complex over it. Or maybe the character fits outside of social norms. Or maybe
the character has something like a disability. I love when good authors hit on any of these themes. When I see cute characters insecure over themselves, I have an urge to "protect" and "care for them" haha. Especially if they are embarassed
about an aspect of themself and learn to love themselves! ♥♥♥ PEAK!
- Elves / Centaurs / Kemonomimi / Any "half"-human race
-
Love these fantasy races! Obsessed with a good elf like everyone else... but I love kitty ears. It's the best when they are on the border of being a human but not quite there. 'Taurs are underrated, no? I want a centaur bjd in
the future maybe...
- Shape-shifters
-
Especially when it is against their will. Yes I'm weird. Brother Bear. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The Incredible Hulk. Animorphs. Fucking Ben10 and Beast Boy. Why was this so common growing up?
- Really embarassed characters
-
Especially when they get really embarassed around people they like! And have a complex around humiliation teehee. So many ways you can explore a character and setting!
- Very heavy psychological themes
-
Maybe obvious but this is a "genre" of a fiction I enjoy as whole. Ego vs ID, repressed sexuality, etc.
- Hurt / Comfort
-
When a character is sick, and they get nursed back to health ♥♥♥ I also like when a character has bad habits, and they learn
to take care of themselves and love themselves... through the power of LOVE obviously?! It depends on the work because sometimes I like heavy h while other times I'm in the mood for just recovery.
- Coffee shops!
-
So I personally don't really like a lot of AUs (especially school ones), but I'm a sucker for good fluff. It's better if the coffee shop setting is in-universe somehow. Plus I love the smell of coffee! So cute! Coffee shops give you that comfy feeling irl and in fiction
- True love / optimistic takes on romance + Marriage / domestic settings / characters having kids together
-
Love is real! I don't think the pairing have to be literal SOULMATES, but I love love!
"Traditonal" marriage endings with characters makes me melt. They should love each other and live together (////) I don't like non-monogamous or OT3 pairings.
I also dislike cheating a lot.... I love adult-style... they grow up... get married... kids then... So simple, but so good! Any cheating is unaccepable! Also bonus points for virginity loss together.
- Alternate endings!!! Bad endings! Roleswaps! Genderswaps!
-
More crack. "What if the bad guy wins??" is great for PreCure too! I love when people add gray morality into these kind of stories. You also have so many opportunities for creative character design.
- Love pollen-related tropes
- .
- When you can't immediately tell whose role is what in a slash ship (top or bottom)
-
.
- Red oni / blue oni
-
Especially with the color palettes! Very important.
- Spongebob and Squidward dynamics!
-
♥♥♥ Oh my god, you guys have no idea how much I want to write an Otona Tropical-Rouge fanfic where
Manatsu and Laura are both in college and get together. I'll have to rewatch all of TR again to get the dynamic really really down, but it would
be so good... Ending like the actual Otona Precure! But anyways, yes I really love this kind of dynamic. I like SquidBob itself! I don't
like it when characters are too, too mean to each other. It's more of the grumpy person taking care of the dumbass lol
- Enemies to Lovers!!!
-
LOVE! Also I mean real enemies teehee
