Random Opinions
No volatile subjects here (overtly political current hot topics, religion, discussion on geopolitics, etc). Please don't read this page if you can't agree to disagree either. This is all for fun, and I genuinely don't care if someone disagrees with me.
Unpopular Opinions
- Mega Evolutions were a mistake.
- I enjoyed Dynamaxing competitively.
- The Splash Star designs are great.
- I didn't hate Nina while watching Code Geass. Kallen was the one who annoyed me.
- I liked Turning Red a lot.
- I like the art style of Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution. The characters look like dolls with hair.
- The actual cookie part of the Oreo is much better than the filling. Same with cakes and frosting. I don't like frosting.
- I don't like candy. Baked goods >>>
- I love pineapple on pizza and will order extra pineapple sometimes.
- The prince from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) is REALLY cute design-wise. Underrated cutie!
- I need to rewatch Gravity Falls, but Soos really annoyed me. I did not find him funny or charming.
- I am a NOT Cookie Run fan at all. Don't know anything about the lore or game or fandom. However, I've like most of the Cookie Run designs I see online and don't really care if they look like cookies or not.
- French fries are overrated. Mashed potatoes are the best form of potato.
- I like it when people label or make up names for art styles and aesthetics.
- !! Werewolves are far more interesting than vampires. !! And hotter too! More female werewolves too please?
- Steven Universe is overhated online sometimes. I really really liked it before the writing and quality went downhill, but the basic world + lore + synposis + characters are really strong and unique. The main character designs and early fusions were good. The backgrounds and color were beautiful.
I thought the character relationships and themes were complex and interesting to explore. Everyone shits on the "bean mouth" artstyle, but it wasn't as established back then. I have a love-hate relationship with the series as a whole and wish someone could rewrite it into a different direction through fanfiction
or something.
- I didn't like 5 Centimeters per Second's writing. I kind of just thought that the plot was more of just stuff happening instead of something more narratively cohesive. (I really like Makoto Shinkai movies as a whole though).
- I define anime as cartoons made by and for a mostly Japanese audience. It's okay to call anime cartoons, that's what they are. BUT
Avatar the Last Airbender isn't an anime. Or the Boondocks. Chinese cartoons are donghua. This all makes sense in my mind.
- Cryptids (and ARGs) are boring topics on "dark"/horror YouTube. Talking about horror movies or ~banned episodes~ of TV shows are more interesting lol.
- It's okay for shows and TV to scare kids sometimes. I'm not talking about showing a kid Game of Thrones or letting children roam the internet.
But I do think it's okay for a kid to be scared by, like, the donkey scene in Pinocchio. Kids like being scared, and it builds resilience to anxiety.
It's good to explore difficult or "scary" topics in fiction.
- It's okay to give feedback in a direct way if someone is open to critique. You don't have to give a perfect compliment sandwich if you don't like my art for example.
Popular Opinions and "Normal" / Neutral Opinions
- I prefer 2D animation over 3D animation, but they both have their strengths and weaknesses. There are some really beautiful CG-animated movies, so it's not just "3D bad".
- I enjoy [dark] fantasy and scifi. The Secret of NIMH. The Redwall novels. The Dark Crystal. The Black Cauldron. Made in Abyss. Shin Sekai Yori. The Last Unicorn. Pan's Labyrinth. [insert more weeb stuff here]
- My take (idk if it's "hot" or not) is that low fantasy is USUALLY much easier to write and safer than high fantasy, which requires more risk and sincerity to present a new world to the audience. I haven't watched it so I can't fully judge, but the Pixar Onward movie looks terrible and like a
combination of everything I dislike. Plus there's that dorky, big-nosed, awkward male protagonist which has been done to death in animation. Low fantasy isn't all bad; I like stuff like Jujutsu Kaisen and magical girl stuff obviously lol.
- Really with the amount of quirky animation protagonists, it would actually be a departure at this point to have a confident, strong protagonist. Male or female.
- I genuinely REALLY like the gen 4 MLP art style and Lauren Faust's designs. They look good. "The ponies don't even look like horses!" I don't care. Notice how each pony has a diverse color scheme and strong character design which tells you about their personality and background?
- Meanwhile the gen 5 character designs are sadly hideous and terrible. I don't mind the actual CG ART STYLE, but the designs belong in the trash. They all repeat colors, the gen 5 ponies look like a pile of purple and magenta. So lazy compared to the rainbow of colors from the gen 4 girls.
Also gen 6 from the leaks looks SO BAD.
- Animal-inspired characters are 10000x cuter than characters that look like babies.
- I really don't like monkeys or apes as animals personally. I think they are ugly / uncanny valley. The strength of animals like chimpanzees scares me. But I respect the intelligence and "nature" (if that makes sense) of these creatures, and I would not want them to be harmed.
- I like cats a lot more than dogs. I don't like birds or reptiles as pets. I can understand how an aquarium would be a fulfilling investment to some, making your own mini world essentially.
- Squishmallows are good but only the huge ones. I have two 30" Squishmallows from the Costco website as awesome couch cushions.
- I hate video game mechanics in isekai. So stupid.
- As of writing, Pinocchio (1940) and Sleeping Beauty (1959) are the best Disney movies imo along with more of their early "classic" stuff. It's interesting to see Disney's influence on anime historically. I'm a weeaboo and a "cartoonaboo", so this isn't a matter of me hating all things western. I want more GOOD animation, more stories, and art as a whole.
- Shipping wars online are all really dumb along with people having a superiority complex over shipping f/m, m/m, f/f, liking dead dove,
liking fluff, liking this or that, whatever. It all really doesn't matter; you aren't better than me or anyone else for disliking [XYZ] popular thing or
liking something not as popular or "niche".
- I want to always keep learning even outside of school and hopefully pass down curiosity and excitement about knowledge to my family as well.
I hope I can keep doing that even through work.
