Overview

Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure (TroPuri) is the 18th overall season of PreCure which aired between 2021 to 2022. It is currently available on CrunchyRoll for streaming. The story follows Manatsu Natsuumi, an energetic girl who wants to do what's most important. She meets the mermaid Laura Apollodoros Hyginus La Mer, or just Laura, by chance.

Characters

Manatsu Natsuumi / Cure Summer (夏海まなつ)

Manatsu is very a energetic girl who wants to constantly do and discover things. Manatsu can be thick-headed, lazy when it comes to schoolwork, and does things without thinking. She is very friendly and loves her friends. I personally love Manatsu and her personality. Maybe controversal to say, but I find that Manatsu is a little bit of a better version of Hikaru from Star Twinkle.
 Cure Summer's design as a multicolored cure is one of my favorites. (Incoming PreCure color ramble) While I think that each Cure should have a main color, I love seeing different takes on designs with subcolors. In this case, I truly believe that RAINBOW is its own category in the color system. Cure Cosmo for example is a blue Cure with rainbow as a subcolor. What was I saying again? Oh yeah, I love how Summer's costume is white with the lovely multicolored details. The sailor suit detail with the shell really ties each cure together with cohesion. I also love her multicolored platform shoes and her gloves, perfect for punching! Color makes me feel emotion easily, and I feel a sweet fruit basket by a beach when I see Manatsu. A summer sunset. Hibiscus flowers.
 Cure Summer is very quick and melee-focused from my interpretation of her. I get chills thinking of when she first thought the Yaraneeda to save Laura, and she dashed forward. So good! Her Otento Summer Strike is a great finisher. Hm. Can someone analyze who would win against Cure Summer one-on-one?

Personal

  There are multiple reasons why I love TroPuri. TroPuri is an excellent slice-of-life anime. Everything down to Manatsu's shenanigans, to the excellent background music, to the tropical ocean setting make it so that the viewer can relax as much as possible. Nothing is too serious or dark and the tone is very silly. It's easy to get some tropical melon pan (and maybe a Mai Tai!) and chill with the Tropical Club, metaphorically speaking. There are SO MANY meme-worthy pictures of Manatsu, Laura, and 'Run. Especially Laura's faces!

 TroPuri's art style and character designs are really top-tier, especially the character designs. The character personnality's get communicated easily (La Mer's elligence, Summer's energy, Flamingo's bravery / strength). The colors are so bright and, well, colorful, but no character feels like a colorblob. Of course we should also all note the unique team color scheme of Rainbow - Purple - Yellow - Red - Blue! The designs are distinct yet cohesive. Detailed, but not overdesigned. Up there with Star Twinkle! I compare this season to StaPuri so much because that's another top-tier season :P Who's my favorite designwise? Hmmmm, I love Summer's uniform two-piece, but I also love Flamingo... yeah Summer ftw. La Mer wins for Excellen-Tropical Style. Which, btw, are INCREDIBLE powerup designs. I love how mature (?) and powerful the team looks, like grand wizards.

 The main message of the series also really applies to me. I struggle with procrastation a lack of motivation A LOT. As cheesy as it is, we all really do have just ONE LIFE. You have to make what you want to happen, happen; nobody else will do that for you! Let's all do what's most important, right now! It's also important to note that TroPuri came out in 2021, in the middle for the terrible Coronavirus pandemic. Quarantine made life hard for everyone, especially kids. The Kamikita twins pointed out that they felt like the Tropical Club was a way to show kids that it was all going to be okay. To relax and recover the best we could during that strange time.
